Firefighting isn’t just about fires. Our role has developed and so has our place in the community. We’re team members, teachers, communicators, community-minded, protectors and role models – firefighting is a diverse and rewarding career. One thing’s for sure – you won’t be bored or sitting around an office all day. Whether you’re out at an incident, inspiring and advising the community about safety or brushing up on your skills and training, there’s always something to keep you on your toes.
Your shift patterns are regular, but no two days are the same when you’re a firefighter. As well as the varied incidents you could attend, such as road traffic collisions and floods, you are just as likely to be carrying out a home safety visit, talking to the community about fire safety, or working with our partners to support a campaign.
